Aquavit a bit…

I recently visited Aquavit, a new Nordic dining restaurant in Central London. I was catching up with an old friend and she recommended this place. You know me, I love to try somewhere new.

It was a Saturday evening and we managed to get a reservation for 6:30 – due to it being the only time available!

I spent the day admiring the menu and stalking their Instagram for what looked best. I really want to go for breakfast too as that looks delicious!

So, as I mentioned this restaurant is Nordic inspired… you may be thinking, what exactly does this mean?

“Contemporary Nordic Dining is a concept inspired by the Scandinavian nature; the land surrounded by water, providing an abundance of seafood, and the forests rich in game, berries, mushrooms and other wild foods.”

You can go for the set menu if you eat before 6:30, the set menu is if I remember correctly, 2 courses for £22.

My friend Amalie had visited once before and recommended the Swedish meatballs, so that is exactly what I had. I’m not usually a big meatball lover but thought I would give it a go — These meatballs were out of this world!!! Probably… almost definitely the best meatballs I have ever put in my mouth.

Thes meatballs came with a creamy mash, vegetables and berries, all it a delicious sauce. I was meant to be catching up with my friend but I was letting her do all the talking while I devoured this dish.

In addition to this beautiful main course, we were accidentally given someone else’s starter. I thought this was all part of the amazing service because it was very small. We were brought salmon and bread and were tucking in when they told us it was given by mistake. Nevertheless, they gave it to us for free and we kept eating.

Finally on to pudding – my favourite! I wanted chocolate and so I went for the chocolate fondant that oozed chocolate when you sliced into it. It was beautiful and I’mma let the picture do the talking.

Aquavit sits comfortably on St James’s Market. It is just a short walk from Piccadilly Circus and yet even in the rain – it looked pretty.

Walking up to the building, it looked inviting and cosy, so I couldn’t wait for Amalie outside! Because this place was in a great location, it also meant that we could take a short walk to Ham Yard for evening drinks.

First of all, the interior was gorgeous. Very Nordic, of course with textiles on the wall and stunning, unusual silverware.

The marble and gold bar area was my favourite, it oozed elegance without trying hard.

When we got to our table we were invited to have some Aqua, which I hear will blow your socks off, so I politely declined. I know – what a bore, but since I’m a lightweight, between that and my champagne I would have been on the floor!

London is amazing for trying different and new things.  I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more for those of you that want to try something new because the food was excellent, staff were friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for what we wanted.
