What a royal affair I was treated to last weekend! My mum very kindly treated myself and my brother’s girlfriend to Afternoon Tea at The Ritz. None of us had ever been before and so we decided to take a visit.
We wanted to do it soon after Christmas, but The Ritz is a place in demand! Unless you want an evening afternoon tea, it is very hard to get a booking. In the end we booked for a 5:30pm table and we all starved ourselves ready to fully indulge.
I am dressed head to toe in LK Bennett
“For 110 years The Ritz London has remained the benchmark for excellence. A name synonymous with luxury, the iconic hotel commands a landmark position in the heart of London.“
If you are looking for a special place to take someone for a famous and iconic time, then look no further than The Ritz. It is located in Piccadilly and is just a short walk from Green Park tube station. I’m sure all of you know what The Ritz is as it is world famous. This is certainly a must-see, especially if you have come to London for a special trip and want five star everything. The Ritz ensure that everything and everyone is catered for and will guarantee you an unforgettable visit.
The Ritz is world famous for its Afternoon Tea. This takes place in The Palm Court room, which is so elegant and quintessentially British. Pretty chinaware fills the table with a gorgeous menu that you get to keep as a little keepsake.
On arrival, I was greeted taken to our pretty little table. Everything was set up just so, and I couldn’t help but notice the other guests. All the men in their suits and ties, dressed to impress. Women guests varied slightly, with some being very smart and some… not so!
I looked at the menu where I saw the selection of 18 different teas to choose from! I went for the famous Ritz Royal English and I loved it.
There are a few options to go for when booking your Afternoon Tea. There is the traditional Afternoon Tea, this is where you get the tea options, the cakes, scones and sandwiches. Then there is the Champagne Afternoon Tea, which is the same but you get a glass of champagne with your tea. This is the option we went for and the champagne is STUNNING! The final option is Celebration Afternoon Tea and this is where you get champagne and a special cake delivered with your Afternoon Tea.
Sittings start from 11:30am and run through to 7:30pm. While you eat and enjoy your afternoon tea, there is a pianist, harpist or string quartet, just to add to the classic beauty and elegance of this place.
My sandwiches seemed to just disappear, I think I inhaled them! They were really delicious and come on a variety of different breads with a selection of typically British fillings.
Next was the cakes, on offer was a lemon macaroon, a chocolate tart, another chocolate cake and a light fruity option too. We cut ours up as there wasn’t one each and we all wanted to try them all.
The scones – it wouldn’t be Afternoon Tea without them. There were plain scones and raison scones and they just keep coming, lovely and warm too! Clotted Devonshire cream and strawberry jam make these scones some of the best I have ever tasted!
As I mentioned earlier, the champagne was gorgeous and so it should be I suppose – but it certainly didn’t disappoint and made the tea that extra bit more special.
Finally, in additional to all these exquisite delights, we all then got served a selection of their homemade cakes. A member of staff comes round with a couple of cakes to choose from, again we shared and both were delightful!
Now feeling very stuffed, they cleared our plates and we chatted and enjoyed each others company while finishing our tea.
Although this tea is very pricey, it is an experience I can not fault. If you have a special occasion to mark then I really recommend The Ritz. It is a treat they will never forget and you know I am all for an experience!
Oh, and most noteworthy was the service – nothing is too much and you are made to feel very special!
If you have been to The Ritz before, I would love to hear about your experience in the comments!
